Kharrrrrrrms. Diaries and not diaries
mono-performance based on the texts and diaries of Daniil Kharms

Daniil Ivanovich Kharms is one of the most extraordinary heroes of Russian literature. Inventor of his own language, a children's poet, author of diaries balancing on the edge of psychedelics and pornography, one of the founders of OBERIU — the Association of Real Art, and simply a genius of the absurd. My fascination with Kharms coincided with my move to St. Petersburg. The depressive meditations of the poet about the world perfectly overlapped with the St. Petersburg sleepiness and the low gray sky. This is probably why I staged my very first performance based on the works and diaries of D. Kharms.

The performance was preceded by a series of videos published in social networks, in which my friends read small works by Kharms. These videos were filmed in a DIY (Do It Yourself) punk aesthetic. The costumes were assembled from readily available materials, with the absurdist remarks of the heroes accentuated by deliberately mismatched objects. Completing the videos with a compilation from Daniil Ivanovich's diaries, I presented my mono-performance to an audience of friends and classmates, combining my directorial debut with a birthday celebration.
