Lux aeterna
performance for choir, cello, dancer and media installation

Sergei Yekimov's requiem Lux aeterna is dedicated to the great ballerina Maya Plisetskaya. When the management of the Games with Classics festival suggested the idea of a stage interpretation of the work, I came up with the idea of a ritual performance in the aesthetics of the Mayan civilization. In my opinion it would be strange to give the role of Maya herself to a ballerina, because comparisons would be inevitable. That is why the main performer was a man, the wonderful dancer-performer Ernest Nurgali.

The first part of the performance was a slow, meditative procession of chorus artists beginning an ancient rite. In the second part, the outcast, separated from the mass, was subjected to ritual tests. In the third and final part, the outcast was sacrificed, but in his last moment he had an epiphany and saw the Light of Truth.
