The Fable
stage cantata by R. Sagdiev
  • Dmitry Otyakovsky
    stage director
Rustam Sagdiyev's The Fable is a work in a rare genre of choral theater. The main character of the stage cantata is the chorus, and it is its role, not that of commentator, but that of storyteller, which sets the direction of the plot. The ascetic scenography and bright authentic folk costumes created by artist Maria-Agatha Pavlova harmoniously emphasized the main idea of the performance — the unity of man and nature.

The mise-en-scene and choreographic language of the performance is based on the rituals of ancient Slavs — wedding, funeral and farming. Written specially for the Ryazan Philharmonic, The Fable became a bright event in the cultural life of the city — for the first time in a long time the world premiere of a theatrical and musical work of such scale took place in Ryazan.
