The Snow Maiden
opera by N. Rimsky-Korsakov
  • Dmitry Otyakovsky
    stage director
Our interpretation of Rimsky-Korsakov's The Snow Maiden brings the action into the future: the protagonist sits in her apartment, pregnant by Mizgir and reminiscing about her carefree youth. A kind of time machine is a comic book manga, which, like a diary, describes the events of bygone days. Thus we divided the narration into two layers: multimedia (videos in the anime style) and mise-en-scene (excerpts from the opera, the action of which takes place in the future). Ikegami Masaki and Sayako Watanabe, employees of the Japanese Consulate in Moscow, were involved in the scoring of the multimedia component of the performance.
