She-Who-Hears-Voices
opera by R. Sagdiev
  • Dmitry Otyakovsky
    stage director
The world premiere of Rustam Sagdiyev's mono-opera She-Who-Hears-Voices took place at the Games with Classics festival. The libretto of the opera is based on the farewell messages of female samurai, works of poetess Yosano Akiko, plots of ancient Japanese epic and mythology. The director's concept of the play was built around a reflection on the ethics of euthanasia. The stage design was a hospital ward in a palliative care unit. The main character was in a state of artificial coma and only separate phrases of the switched on radio echoed in her consciousness.
